Jannarelly Automotive Unveils Design-1 Sports Car
The Jannarelly Design-1 is yet another fresh sportscar to come out Dubai’s growing automotive industry. The Emirati city has become a hotbed for high end luxury and supercars due to the city being one of the world’s most reputable business centres despite permitting tax exemption benefits.
The Jannarelly Design-1 is a retro-styled sportscar that encapsulates the basic requirements of an agile roadster. The man behind the Design-1’s styling, Anthony Jannarelly, has a few noteworthy designs to his name including W Motors’ Lykan HyperSport and Fenyr SuperSport. He also designed Zarooq Motors’ Sand Racer, a 4-wheel drive dune-basher designed to take on the UAE’s many sand dunes with aplomb despite being totally road legal. While designing the Zarooq Sand Racer, Jannarelly combined his abilities with those of Frederic Juillot, a car paramour and custom-made boat maker who happened to be an experienced in the field of composite materials. Together under the banner of Jannarelly & Juillot Special, they commenced the Jannarelly automotive brand.
The Design-1 features design styles borrowed from the excellent little European sports cars that were prevalent in the 60’s. Jannarelly Automotive describes its fresh car to be a fully customizable, rear-wheel drive, 2-seater roadster that features a rear-mid-mounted engine layout. The car weighs just 710Kgs and is powered by a Nissan-sourced, naturally aspirated, Trio.5-litre V6 that produces 304bhp and 371Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with limited slip differential. The combination of its high power output and lightweight bod means that the car should be good to drive on the track, as is claimed by the company. It is capable of reaching a top speed of approximately 220km/h and boasts of an estimated 0-100km/h sprint time of four seconds.
The car has been designed to inculcate the best of both worlds; vintage lines and plain mechanical engineering borrowed from sportscars of the 60s combined with sophisticated and lightweight modern materials. The front end has traces from iconic Le Stud’s racers from the 50’s including the Ferrari two hundred fifty TR and Jaguar D-Type sportscar. Interestingly, among the latest crop of auto designs, the front facade looks remarkably similar to that off the Jaguar C-X75 Concept which was the villains choice of rail in the recently released James Bond Spectre film.At the rear, the Design-1 features two puny round tail lamps and a massive rear diffuser. The chassis is made of lightweight steel tubes and structural aluminium panels whereas the assets is composed of non-structural fibreglass or moulded carbon fibre panels. To keep the weight as low as possible, several other components like the Design-1’s seats are also made of carbon fibre.
Orders for the Jannarelly Design-1 have already begun with deliveries slated to begin sometime in summer-2016. The car’s basic model has been priced at $55,000 (ex-factory, ex-tax) with a big list of customizable options on suggest to ensure that every customer receives a unique lump. Only thirty Design-1s will be made. The cars will be assembled by mitt at the company’s facility in Dubai.
